Night out with Jade

I just spent a wonderful evening with my daughter. This doesn't happen a lot because, #1 she's 12, and #2 we both tend to get on each other's nerves a lot when we're around each other in confined spaces for long periods of time.

Tonight, we went to Hobby Lobby where I spent way too much time looking for things specific to my list (damn not having metal etching solution!) and she only asked for a couple of things and didn't complain about me only getting one of them for her.

Then we went to Gordman's to buy her a couple new pairs of jeans because she keeps out growing them. This is about when we start driving each other batty. She had to try on several pair and I get bored and start thinking about things I could (and would rather) be doing. But, instead she helped me find a really cute dress for an upcoming wedding I'm going to, we found her some jeans and then we left. No fighting or arguing or frustration. Yay!

Next was dinner. Keep in mind that by now it's right around 9, so it's a really late dinner and we've been together with just the two of us since about 5. It's almost a record. And dinner was great. We joked and laughed and had a wonderfully fun time.

At one point, she was being goofy and said to me in a weird voice "A little birdy told me you get your hair colored."
To which I replied, "Is it the same little birdy that colors your hair too?"
"Silly goose, birdies don't color hair!"
"So the goose told you?"
*serious face on her* "A goose isn't a birdy."
I just stared for a second, then bust out laughing. "Um, yes. A goose /is/ a bird."
She looked at me like I was crazy then started laughing even harder. "Oh yeah! I thought the goose was a moose!"
Hilarious! But that's not even the best part.

When we left to head home, a 1.5 hr drive, we were maybe 5-10 minutes on our way and *she turned off the radio to talk to me!* That's right. She wanted to talk instead of listen to music or argue or whatever. :D

And she wanted to talk about writing, too! So we spent the entire drive home talking about our various characters and she'd ask me questions about mine and how I came up with them and how she could bring her's to life and all of that. The happiest point of my day was 11:30 at night.

Here's crossing my fingers to hoping that she's still in a great mood tomorrow. :)
